BLACK CAUCUS
Society for Research in Child Development
MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
The Black Caucus of SRCD first met as an informal group in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1973. Five objectives were outlined at the Philadelphia meeting. The objectives were: (1) to provide an opportunity for Black people who are interested in research in child development to meet and interact; (2) to establish inter-communication networks between Blacks in this area; (3) to become acquainted with other groups who have similar interests in Black children; (4) to adopt a position on the future relationship of Blacks to SRCD and these other groups; and (5) to discuss issues of significance for Black researchers and Black children.
The Black Caucus of SRCD publishes a Newsletter three times per year—June, October, and February; and holds a Pre-Conference immediately prior to the biennial meeting of SRCD. Several committees (appointed by the Chairperson) exist to help out the objectives of the Black Caucus.
Membership is open to anyone who supports the objectives of the Black Caucus. Biennial dues for Professional Members are $60. Any graduate student or post-doctoral fellow may apply for the status of Student Member, with biennial dues of $25. Organizational dues are $75.00. The Black Caucus has a Chairperson, a Chairperson-Elect, and an Executive Officer.
